Autocompletion looks through all the CabMasterPro variables currently defined, and tries to make a suggestion to save you having to type the full name accurately. It is active when you are typing into the formula bar and similar places like friendly page setup dialogs.
Here's a summary of the rules that are in effect when typing with it on.
KEY | ACTION |
---|---|
Tab | Show me another suggestion beginning with same stub |
Enter | Confirms current suggestion |
Backspace | Deletes last character typed, then re-suggests autocompletion for what remains |
F7 | Manually get a suggestion, e.g. if backing up through a word |
F6 | Toggles autocompletion engine on/off |
left, right, home, end | Leaves highlit autocompletion suggestion in place then moves cursor |
up,down arrows | Deletes highlit autocompletion suggestion then moves up/down if possible |
Try this out by typing a few letters that start a name in the All Answers. You should see the autocompletion suggestion. If you skip to the end by pressing the end button or pressing the right arrow several times, the suggestion will still be in place. Then if you press the backspace, you will see the cursor moves backwards but after the cursor there is a suggestion which could be the same as what you would have deleted.
Try typing a single letter like b or the starting letters of something you know appears with different tails, then press tab a few times and you will cycle through all the suggestions beginning with b. It is probably easiest to see how autocompletion works by just trying it out and seeing what effect the keystrokes in the above list have.
You will soon find you can type in formulas a lot quicker and more accurately, and in the few situations where autocompletion can be annoying, just toggle it off then on again later.
